SHILLONG, July 21: The women’s wing of the All Arunachal Students’ Union of Meghalaya has been running from pillar to post to seek justice for the victim of an alleged molestation case involving as businessman from Police Bazar.
The Union has alleged that the Arunachalee girl who was working as an intern at Shop no 42, Variety Corner inside MUDA complex in Police Bazar had filed an FIR at Sardar police station on July 19 against her employer.
In her FIR, the victim claimed that her employer had inappropriately touched her and when she objected he restrained her and continued to harass her.
The employer has filed a counter FIR against the accused alleging that she was trying to blackmail him.
Speaking with The Shillong Times on Thursday, AASU women’s wing president Khyoda Yoyo condemned the employer and the counter FIR blaming the victim instead.
“Meghalaya is one of the safest places for women and here we see a girl from the Northeast being molested and harassed. What could be more unfortunate than this,” she said.
She also claimed that the wife of the accused had requested the students’ body to convince the victim to go for a compromise.
Informing that multiple calls were being made to the sole eyewitness as a pressure tactic, Yoyo said, “I urge the students’ union and pressure groups of the state to cooperate with us and ensure that justice is served.”
