SHILLONG, July 24: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Empowerment of Women will review the progress of police investigation into the May 30 filicide case on Monday.
Director General of Police Lajja Ram Bishnoi, Meghalaya State Women Commission chairperson Phidalia Toi and Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Iamonlang M Syiem will again appear before the committee and brief it on the status of the probe pertaining to the alleged murder of two minors by their father, Joefreeson Jana, at Wahktieh, Nongrah Nonglum.
The meeting will be held at the conference room of the Assembly at 2 pm.
Chairperson of the House panel, Ampareen Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times they will seek the status report of inquiry.
Earlier, the House panel had directed the police and the two commissions to meet immediately and take cognisance of all the omissions and commissions that may have occurred.
She had stated that the police chief and the heads of the two commissions agreed that all cases of domestic violence, reported to the police across the state, needed to be pursued seriously.
Jana had reportedly killed his children to take revenge on their mother for lodging a police complaint of domestic violence against him.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh said they have summoned some private agencies to find out if their women employees are enjoying the benefits they deserve. Those summoned are the Human Resource Department of Chillibreeze Solutions Private Limited, Unique Ex-Servicemen Security Agency, Mawkynroh Women’s Service Agency and officer in-charge of Rangers Security Services Organisation.
According to Lyngdoh, the agencies will be questioned if their women contractual workers are getting the benefit of maternity leave, sick leave and other welfare measures.
