Guwahati: It was a soothing but heavy pre-monsoon shower on Thursday evening in Guwahati city.

The shower caused flash flood in many parts of the city. The worst thing that happened was death of a lady, a mother of three children, due to electrocution when she came into contact with a live electric wire while wading through flood waters on a by-lane at Anil Nagar locality in the heart of the city. Deceased Basanti Debi had gone to buy vegetables for the dinner when she caught in the heavy downpour that later caused her death.

The death reflects that some localities in the city become death traps. There were instances when citizens got killed after falling into man holes on the deluged pavements. So far six persons have died in Guwahati city after falling into unguarded drain in the city especially during flash floods triggered by heavy rain.
