SHILLONG, July 29: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will soon go digital with the Assembly Secretariat inviting tender for implementation of National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
It may be mentioned that Nagaland recently became the first state in India to implement the NeVA programme and become completely paperless. During the recent Assembly session in Nagaland, tablets or e-books were attached on each table for the legislators.
Now, here in Meghalaya, the state legislative assembly earlier this week invited tenders for procurement, supply, fitting, installation of and commissioning of touch-enabled tablets, personal computer laptops, scanners, digital boards etc.
It is pertinent to note that the funding for the project will be provided by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and for Northeastern and hilly states, funding will be in the ratio of 90:10.
The mission of NeVA is to make all the states/UTs legislatures paperless/digitised legislatures, streamline all the processes for information exchange with the different state government departments and to publish the contents on the public portal as and when it happens.
It also aims to assist the legislators of states/UTs to use the latest Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and participate in the legislative debates more effectively.
The NeVA system has been developed to make all the work and data related to legislative bodies available online for the use of both citizens and the members of assemblies. It includes a website and a mobile app.
