Despite resistance, Assam ‘completes’ erection of electric posts in record time on border areas

NONGPOH, Aug 4: The Assam government, in the face of stiff opposition from border residents, has completed erecting electric posts within a record time of one month at Sabuda and Jatalong under Block-II in Ri-Bhoi.
Informing this on Thursday, president of Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Area Blik Sohtun maintained that the erection of electrical posts by the Assam government is nothing but a display of aggression, right under the nose of Meghalaya government, which continues to keep mum.
Stating that heavy machinery was used to erect poles, Sohtun continued, “We have submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and the same has also been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi earlier, seeking their intervention to stop the project being carried out by the Assam government. But so far it seems there has been no intervention at all, which thereby allowed the Assam government to complete the erections of the electric posts in record time,” Sohtun said.
He also informed that the headmen of these border villages, along with the locals, will soon organise a mass rally to protest against the “aggression” of the Assam government as well as to demand Meghalaya government’s intervention into the matter.
