Regulatory Board submits report on CMJ Univ affairs

 SHILLONG: The report on the affairs of the CMJ University completed by the Regulatory Board headed by L Roy was submitted to the Education Department on May 10.

Though Roy did not want to reveal the content of the report, he indicated that there are many more irregularities in the functioning of the CMJ University than what was reported and the Board also made several recommendations to streamline the system.

The Regulatory Board also began the probe into Mahatma Gandhi University of Meghalaya at Byrnihat and will submit its report on May 24.

The Chairman of the Regulatory Board, L Roy, along with the Director of Higher and Technical Education, LR Sangma as convener, Dr.(Mrs) MPR Lyngdoh, Prof. Dr Caroline Marak and T Mark as members, met several times since April 30 and visited the private universities after the Governor issued directive on the irregularities of CMJ University on the same day. The Board was fully constituted in September last year. The current mandate of the Regulatory Board is to regulate the functioning of private universities which include CMJ University, Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI), Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), William Carey University, Techno Global University, University of Technology and Management, University of Science and Technology, Mahatma Gandhi University and Capt. Willliamson Sangma Technical University.

The terms of reference of the Board include periodical inspection of all private universities set up in the State, to call for reports from the registrar of private universities whenever required and also to ensure that quality education is imparted in private universities as per guidelines of the UGC.

The Regulatory Board many recommend to the State Government, “imposition of penalty, on any private university as per extant procedure which violates relevant provisions laid down by the Government”.
