SHILLONG, Aug 5: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the state government has always kept youths at the centre while making policies.
Conrad said this in his address at the inaugural programme of new science block of Thomas Jones Synod College, as part of its silver jubilee celebrations, in Jowai on Friday.
The new building has been funded under Centre’s Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.
Conrad, in his address, said that youths are the most important resource of the state and the government has adopted a focused approach to constantly engage with the youths to create the right environment and ecosystem for their development.
“I call the youths our strength and it is the responsibility of the society and the government to create the right environment to channelise and direct the energy of the youths into right things,” he said, asserting that the MDA government, in the last four years, has formulated many youth-centric programmes and initiatives in areas ranging from education, entrepreneurship, music and sports to equip them with a competitive edge and provide a platform to excel in their chosen field.
“Youths have been the centre of our policy-making and what we want to do for the state. And the reason why we are doing that is because the youths are the most important group for the future and the growth of our state in the long run,” he said.
During the function, the chief minister informed that sanction has been accorded for different development initiatives to uplift the civil infrastructure and beautification of Jowai town, including the construction of the Mini Secretariat.
The programme was also attended by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, among others.
