“During the course of the investigation, it was ascertained that it was a false information and that the criminal act was committed by the staff of the CMJ University themselves for ulterior motive,” East Khasi SP M Kharkrang said on Thursday.

He informed that the Laitumkhrah police have been requested to file a criminal case against the staff of the CMJ University in this regard.

Anticipatory bail plea rejected

Meanwhile, the High Court of Meghalaya, single bench, has rejected the anticipatory bail applications of CMJ University Chancellor CM Jha and Human Resource Manager Juban Kharpuri.

While hearing the matter on Thursday, Justice SR Sen rejected the anticipatory bail plea moved by the lawyers of both Jha and Kharpuri.

Earlier, the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate had issued arrest warrants against Jha, Kharpuri and Director Manjeet Kaur, all of who are reportedly absconding.
