Recoveries surpass fresh COVID cases

SHILLONG, Aug 10: Meghalaya on Wednesday reported more recoveries than fresh COVID-19 cases with 139 people recovering from the disease and 45 contracting infections, health officials said.
The state also reported one coronavirus-related death from the West Jaintia Hills district, mounting the fatality count to 1,612, the health department said in a bulletin.
The number of people currently infected with the virus is 581 in the state, which has so far registered 96,022 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 93,829 recoveries, the bulletin read.
The most pandemic-hit West Garo Hills, including Tura, reported 21 new COVID-19 cases and 84 cases of recovery even as the number of active cases in the district was recorded at 376, the highest in the state.
The number of active COVID-19 cases decreased to 78 in East Khasi Hills, which includes Shillong, with the district reporting five new cases of infection and 27 more cases of recovery on Wednesday, the latest health statistics said.
New cases of viral infection was also reported from East Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills.
Forty-five COVID-19-infected patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the state, the officials said. (UNI)
