SHILLONG, Aug 10: Ahead of the 2023 assembly elections, the state Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to bring about organisational changes at all levels, state president Ernest Mawrie said on Wednesday.
The decision means that the saffron party will restructure itself right from the state office bearers to the district and mandal level.
Mawrie said the party will try to achieve booth level organisation in more than 20 constituencies where the party has high chances of victory.
“The state election committee will be notified at the earliest. Reports of MLAs joining us will be welcomed and we shall ensure 5-10 sitting MLAs will join us by November,” he said.
“There are 5-6 aspiring candidates in some constituencies with whom we are trying to strike a formula in which all candidates will work together for the party. Those, whose survey report is good, will get the ticket. If needed we will soon restructure the organisational setup in all mandals,” he added.
Mawrie said the BJP will take a decision after getting a report from the booth level “sashaktikaran abhiyan” committee.
In some of the cases where an aspiring candidate or sitting MLA from another party is keen on joining BJP then they will advise party karyakartas to team up the aspiring candidate, Mawrie said.
The party will ensure that the procedure for full organisational restructuring will be completed by this month and the state election committee will scrutinise all the requirements as per the constitutional mandate of the party, he stated.
“We shall soon launch a programme for large scale membership drive in all mandals. Our party will leave no stone unturned to ensure getting a double digit in this election,” Mawrie said.
