SHILLONG, Aug 11: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has said that system improvement works are being undertaken currently and once completed, the low voltage problems in the plain-belt areas of Garo Hills region, particularly in South West Garo Hills and West Garo Hills, will be solved.
In a statement, the MeECL said that the system improvement works are being undertaken under North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project. The implementing agency for the same is PowerGrid.
Shedding further light on the improvement works, the MeECL said that a new 132/33 KV (2*50 MVA) grid S/S is being constructed at Chibinang. “The substation is in advanced stage of completion and is likely to be commissioned this year,” the MeECL said.
Likewise, three new 33/11 KV S/s are being constructed at Chibinang, Raksamgre (Potamari), Rajabala (Gutlibari), along with incoming feeders, it added.
It may be mentioned that the statement from the MeECL comes in the wake of reports coming into the fore about residents of the plain-belt of Garo Hills reportedly suffering in the summer heat without electricity.
Phulbari MLA SG Esmatur Mominin had also stated there is solution to the poor state of electricity but that would need the upcoming MeECL substation in Chibinang to be made functional and the station charged.
