SHILLONG: Two days after the forced plantation of bamboo stalks in private lands and construction of forest guard quarters at Sabuda by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council (KAADC), nodal officers of Meghalaya will meet its Assam counterpart next week to discuss the recent alleged encroachment by Assam.

Informing this here on Friday, Chief Secretary WMS Pariat said that the State’s officials will discuss about this issue besides others with the Assam government in a meeting scheduled to be held next week.

“Our nodal officer will discuss on this issue with its counterpart from the other State in a meeting schedule next week,” Pariat said.

Recently, the KSU and CSWO (Irene) conducted a spot inspection and found out that the KAADC had planted 1000 bamboo stalks in the lands belonging to Bandalin Mukhim and Belsidora Mukhim and Dromika Shabong while there were thousands other stalks yet to be planted.

Considering the fact that these are economic and agricultural activities, Pariat said “I don’t think anybody should have any problems with it.”

However, since the same has been carried out in a disputed land, the CS assured that the government will look into the matter stating that the issue will be discussed in detail during the meeting.
