SHILLONG, Aug 13: The youth wing of the National People’s Party has slammed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for advocating the idea of giving citizenship to Bangladeshi immigrants in the country.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, national working president of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) Nicky Nongkhlaw said, “They (TMC) talk about considering Bangladeshi immigrants as Indian citizens. So what kind of security will they provide to state? If they are coming up with this kind of ideology, what can we even speak about ILP?”
Nongkhlaw also slammed the party for not raising the demand for implementation of inner line permit (ILP) in the state.
With regard to the central tussle between the TMC and the BJP-led NDA government, the NPYF national working president said the allegations of corruption levelled by TMC against the government are baseless.
Recently, TMC leader Mukul Sangma and other party leaders had staged a protest outside Parliament demanding the scrapping of the state’s border agreement with Assam after claiming that it is “flawed”. The TMC leaders had also demanded the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution stating that it will assuage the feelings of the ethnic groups about being left behind after independence.
