SHILLONG, Aug 13: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has alleged that the NPP is working as a facilitator for the BJP at the Centre to direct people to join the saffron party, even as it expressed surprise that the NPP top leadership is engaging itself in such tactics.
Training guns on NPP’s national vice president Prestone Tynsong, the TMC said that the NPP leadership is asking people to join the BJP.
“The NPP is officially telling people to join the BJP if they see that people cannot align with the party,” TMC state vice president George B Lyngdoh said.
“I didn’t know that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has become the official chief adviser and spokesperson of the saffron party. This shows that there is a strong connection between BJP and NPP,” he said.
He questioned as to why the NPP should speak on behalf of the BJP, while also reasoning that it is only be possible if Tynsong has become the chief adviser of the saffron party.
“Why would any political leader send people to another party? Here we have another political leader who is marketing other political parties,” Lyngdoh said. He added that this only corroborates the BJP-NPP nexus in the state.
Earlier, Tynsong, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, had asked the TMC legislators to join the saffron party ahead of the 2023 assembly elections in the state.
“I think they (TMC) need to join BJP, it would be better for them. It is good if they join BJP ahead of elections,” Tynsong had told reporters when responding to a query about the prospect of the TMC as a new entrant to Meghalaya politics in 2023.
