SHILLONG, Aug 18: A day after Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale levelled allegations of anomalies in the Shillong Smart City project, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday termed the charges as baseless and politically motivated. He added that the book of accounts has recently been audited by the statutory auditor and vetted by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
Tynsong dismissed the allegation that an amount of more than Rs 1005 crore has been sanctioned to Shillong Smart City Limited, the special purpose vehicle set up by the government to monitor the project, and said that till date an amount of Rs 251 crore has been sanctioned which includes Rs 55 crore from the state share and Rs 196 crore from the Centre.
On the allegation of non submission of financial statements, Tynsong said as per procedure the financial statement has to be filed with the Registrar of Companies upon completion of audit by the CAG and its adoption in the general body meeting.
“This book of account has just been audited and has been just confirmed by the CAG,” Tynsong said while informing that filing will take place next month since as per the rules, before filing the statement the Board has to get the report of the CAG and the statutory auditor.
The annual general meeting of the Shillong Smart City Limited is expected to clear and file the statement, he added.
Tynsong also said that the book of account for the financial years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 has been duly audited by the statutory auditor and even approved by the CAG.
“The allegation made by TMC is malicious, baseless and political,” he reiterated.
Gokhale had on Wednesday claimed that Shillong Smart City Ltd has not filed a single financial result or annual report with the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs as is required under law even though it has been granted over Rs 1,005 crore of funds for various schemes under the ambitious project.
