SHILLONG, Aug 21: The National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has invited Request For Proposal (RFP) from consultants for the rehabilitation and upgradation of Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai road up to Meghalaya-Assam border.
The RFP was called for more than 30 km of the road under SARDP-NE ‘Phase-A’ on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
The cost of the project is Rs 155.54 crore, to be completed within 24 months.
It may be mentioned that even the condition of the Shillong-Umiam road, one of the most important and busiest roads in the state, is not good.
The PWD had recently instructed the NHIDCL to call a tender to repair the Umiam-Shillong section.
Another important road, Shillong-Dawki Road, is also hanging fire.
Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds the PWD (Roads) portfolio, had informed that the re-tendering process for the road will take place soon.
The work order for Umtyngar-Sohra road has been issued. Contractors had begun black-topping work which had to be halted due to monsoons. Work on the entire stretch is expected to be completed once rains cease.
