SHILLONG: Despite the deadline issued by Governor RS Mooshahary ending on Tuesday, the CMJ University is yet to submit its compliance report to the Governor, who is also the Visitor of the University.

Mooshahary had on May 1 issued a series of directions to the CMJ University and asked them to submit a fresh proposal for the appointment of Chancellor and withdraw all the degrees awarded so far.

Principal Secretary to the Governor’s Secretariat, MS Rao, on Tuesday informed that the CMJ University through their lawyers had made a representation that they have not been able to access the records due to the CID investigation.

However, the University has not sought for more time to submit the compliance report.

Mooshahary had directed that no admission of students shall be undertaken by the CMJ University till the appointment of a Chancellor; besides the University was also directed to recall and withdraw all the degrees awarded so far and publish this fact in national and local dailies at their own cost.

According to Rao, the matter will be put up before the Governor and accordingly he will take a call on the matter.

The CMJ University was also directed to frame rules and procedures for admission into the M.Phil and PhD programmes, allocation of supervisor, course work, evaluation, assessment and other related matters in accordance with the UGC regulation.

Meanwhile, the State BJP unit on Tuesday asked the State Government to ensure that the students of the CMJ University do not lose their money and career. The BJP also demanded for a review of the Meghalaya Private Universities (Regulation of Establishment and Maintenance of Standards) Act, 2012.

The party also said that the CBI should be entrusted with the responsibility of probing into the CMJ University fiasco.

Earlier, State BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty and other party officials had met some of the student of CMJ University and discussed the matter.

“The students are concerned about the sudden halt in the classes and are in a dark about their future,” the party said.

The party also questioned the role of the Regulatory Committee and condemned the panel for not taking note when the University was conducting admissions of the student.
