NEW DELHI, Aug 23: Continuing his tirade of attacks on the central government, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not implementing the agreed minimum support price (MSP) on farmers’ produce to favour his industrialist “friend” Gautam Adani.
Addressing several rallies and meetings, Malik, whose term as the Governor of Meghalaya is set to end in a few weeks, warned that if the Centre fails to implement the MSP and give legal guarantees as agreed earlier, the agitating farmers will hit back very hard.
“If the MSP isn’t implemented…legal assurance on MSP isn’t given, there will be another fight…this time there will be a furious fight,” he told the media persons in one of the rallies at Kira village in Haryana.
“You cannot defeat the farmers when you can’t deploy Enforcement Directorate or Income Tax officers,” Malik quipped, hinting at recent raids on politicians from the Opposition.
He also pledged to “fully participate” in the fight for farmer’s rights after his tenure is over as the Governor of Meghalaya.
Malik claimed that Adani established a sizable warehouse in Panipat and filled it with wheat purchased at a lower price.
“He’ll sell that wheat when the price of wheat goes up… As a result, farmers will suffer while these PM’s friends will prosper,” the Governor said.
There will be a fight against this and this will not be permitted, Malik cautioned.
