SHILLONG, Aug 24: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulations of Street Vending Act, 2014 and the Draft Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Rules 2022 that essentially repeals the state Act enacted in 2014.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the state government had enacted the Meghalaya Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending Act 2014.
“However, the Centre legislated the Street Vendors Protection of Livelihood and Regulations of Street Vending Act in March, 2014,” he said.
According to him, as follow up on the communication of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the department brought a proposal to the Cabinet to repeal the state Act and adopt the Central Act.
