SHILLONG, Aug 25: After days of unabated protest, the All NEHU Worker’ Union (ANWU) has decided to suspend its ‘silent protest’ after receiving assurance from the Vice Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla.
The Union has demanded the regularisation of services of the casual workers on the grounds that many of them have been working for 10 to 30 years.
“After a thorough discussion, the union has taken the decision to temporarily suspend the silent protest in realization of a sense of responsibility towards the betterment of the university as a whole, which also has affected the day-to-day works in the university and its reputation,” said ANWU working president Pyndapborlang L Nongpuir.
