SHILLONG, Aug 25: Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma on Thursday fired a volley of attacks on the state government over the “vehicle scam” in the Police department, saying that the government should be held responsible for demotivating the otherwise highly-motivated state police personnel.
Talking to The Shillong Times, Mukul said allegations after allegations are being levelled against the government, but the chief minister seems to be perpetually on denial mode.
“This government is always defending allegations of corruptions and irregularities instead of trying to remain true to its mandated responsibility and going after these allegations,” he said.
The CM, instead of taking cognizance of the inquiry reports, is trying to jump to the conclusion and dismissing the allegations.
The NPP-led government cannot be expected to protect the interests of the people and the state since it has shunned its responsibilities, he added.
Asked about GK Iangrai’s posting as Commandant of SF-10, a force he had initiated during his tenure as CM, Mukul said the premiere wing of the police organisation was conceptualised with some objectives and a lot of effort has gone into building this wing.
“If you analyse how the government has misused the police organisation, you will understand why I am saying that they have demotivated the otherwise highly motivated policemen and this does not auger well for the future of the state,” he signed off.
