SHILLONG: The novel initiative of conducting pre-final examinations for the SSLC students by the district administration for both in East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills has paid the dividends as there was vast improvement in the results.

Last year, when East Garo Hills was undivided, the pass percentage of SSLC students was just 23.39 per cent. However, the pass percentage this year is 33.94 per cent for East Garo Hills and 40.33 per cent for North Garo Hills, which was carved out of the erstwhile East Garo Hills District. “This time, before the final examinations, we took the initiative to conduct pre-final examinations for the students of both East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills districts and this has resulted in vast improvement in the (SSLC) results”, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vijay Mantri said over phone on Thursday.

The question papers were prepared by experts and the district administration facilitated the students to write examinations in January this year and this provided as a platform for the students to excel in exams, the Deputy Commissioner said. He said that this is for the first time that any district administration is conducting pre-final examinations for the benefit of the students.
