NEW DELHI, Aug 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday made no bones that there is no going back on the settlement of the interstate border dispute with neighbouring Assam considering the mandate and the sentiment of the people of the area and of both the states.
“Something not solved for 50 years is going to be settled soon,” Conrad replied while speaking at the NPP National Executive Committee meeting here.
Both the states with the intimation to the Centre have carried out this boundary demarcation issues, which is progressing well, he said.
The chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam had in March sealed a deal in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and resolved the six out of the 12 areas of dispute along the interstate dispute.
The two chief ministers held discussions again to plan a framework for the remaining areas of discord.
There is criticism from the main opposition party in Meghalaya, Trinamool Congress, and others who feel that the settlement is a sell-out for the hill state.
The settlement is done as per the will of the local people, Conrad added.
