SHILLONG, Aug 31: Taking one step at a time for over 720 days and covering around 10,000 kms on foot is 20-year-old hitchhiker from Maharashtra Rohan Agrawal, who is traversing through 26 states and is currently in Meghalaya to create awareness against plastics and their hazardous effects.
“In this journey, I have walked 10,000 kms, taking lift since 720-plus days and travelled through 26 states of India. My major intention of doing this journey is to create awareness about plastics and their hazardous effects, and also giving a message of unity in diversity,” said Agarwal.
He said that he intends to walk to Omyakom in Siberia where the temperature is -72 degree Celsius and become the first Indian to reach there by land route.
Agrawal, who will leave for Jowai on Wednesday, intends to go to Bangladesh from Silchar. Agarwal had also called on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at his office, who wished him all the best in his journey.
Meanwhile, Jiwat Vaswani, an environmentalist from Shillong, said, “It is good our young people are coming forward and realising the importance of protecting the environment and spreading the awareness.”
