SHILLONG, Sep 2: In what can be termed as an amalgamation of exultation and depiction of myths and thought provoking messages using paintings, artists from across the country came together on Day 2 to join the celebration of ‘Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng’ or the ‘Roots of Identity’ in memory of the Unsung Heroes of Meghalaya) at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Friday.
The artists participated in the painting competition while children were given the opportunity to display their talent through the Child Art Exhibition that was also held during the day.
Students showed enthusiasm too as they participated in literary competitions including poetry recitation and essay writing events that were held as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
Director of Positive Energy Art Foundation, Dr Prakash Kishore, said,
“The event has been organised to celebrate the unsung heroes of Meghalaya, those who had struggled and were martyred to get the freedom.”
He said the event is centered on the theme ‘Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng’, which means ‘The Roots of Identity’.
Talking about the participation of school students in the fine arts competition, Kishore, who is a seasoned artist himself, said, “The students are very talented but need such opportunities to showcase their talent.”
He requested the central government and the state government to come up with different interventions for the betterment of students.
“We are fortunate enough that we have created such a space for them through this programme where they could showcase their talent, and definitely, they have learnt so many things from the competitions that we have organised for them,” he added.
The event is being jointly organised by the Shillong Law College and Positive Energy Art Foundation under the chairmanship of Dr Prakash Kishore, and under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture.
