SHILLONG, Sep 9: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the first day of the Autumn session paid homage to the political figures that Meghalaya recently lost.
Initiating the discussion during the obituary reference, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma remembered the contributions of former Home Minister RG Lyngdoh, who passed away in July 2022.
Conrad said Lyngdoh was never scared of speaking his mind with an excellent sense of humour.
Conrad also recalled the contributions of former parliamentarian Robert Kharshiing, who breathed his last in April 2022.
The chief minister said that Kharshiing was highly intellectual and had represented Meghalaya and its people very well in the Upper House.
Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma, on the other hand, spoke highly of former minister and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) CEM Albinstone M Sangma, who passed away in June this year.
Mukul said Albinstone was a guide and an uncle to the Manda clan.
“He brought the entire Manda clan together and contributed immensely for the cause of the clan and the state,” the Leader of Opposition said.
Remembering former chief minister JD Rymbai, Mukul said he was synonymous with simplicity, honesty and probity.
Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh also paid tributes to the departed politicians.
Metbah, in his address, remembered RG Lyngdoh as a strong-willed person and a writer-cum-poet, JD Rymbai as a man of simplicity, and Robert Kharshiing as a friend and a highly intelligent person.
MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh also remembered veteran political and her brother RG Lyngdoh, stating that the latter’s demise has left a dent in the family.
Recalling RG Lyngdoh as a caring individual, Ampareen said he was a man of principles who left behind a great legacy.
Charles Pyngrope of Meghalaya Trinamool Congress also paid tributes to late RG Lyngdoh, Albinstone M Sangma and MLA Sing Mulieh.
It is pertinent to note that Mulieh passed away in May this year.
