SHILLONG, Sep 11: The Opposition Trinamool Congress has said that the chain of events right from the escape of the undertrial prisoners/convicts on Saturday to four of them being lynched on Sunday is a blot on the security apparatus of the state and poses grave threat to the safety and security of the people of the state.
Opposition Chief Whip George B Lyngdoh, while referring to the mob lynching case in West Jaintia Hills, condemned the prison break incident and also the police for allowing the mob to take law into their hands.
“There is a sense of lawlessness in the state and people seem to have lost their trust on the justice system, the administration and police resulting in such kind of mob lynching incidents,” he said.
He said that leaders who actually should lead from the front and uphold the law are seen breaking it through illegal transportation of coal and other scams in the state.
“People feel that if such high-level people can go scot-free by breaking the law they can also break the law with impunity. They feel this impunity reigns in the state and this influence can be drawn from such instances that are happening,” Lyngdoh said.
“Such instances like today only reflects the kind of respect people have for the law and the law enforcing agencies,” he added.
