JOWAI: Upper Primary Schools upgraded to Secondary level under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) with effect from the current academic session are functioning without teachers in both East and West Jaintia Hills districts.
All together, six upper primary schools have been upgraded into secondary level in East and West Jaintia Hills districts.
The Directorate of Education and Literacy, Government of Meghalaya issued the NoCs for upgradation of all the six schools in Jaintia Hills in March last.
RMSA schools including Government UP School, Mookaiaw, Jowai Government Basic LP and UP School, Sutnga Government UP School, Shangpung UP School, Government Senior basic School, Mynso and Saipung government UP School require four teachers each in subjects including Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English.
Sources informed that upper primary teachers of the respective schools are now helping students of class IX and X in all these RMSA upgraded schools.
The Education Department in Jaintia Hills had advertised for vacant posts in April and the last date for submission of application was April 30. The appointment was to be made on contract basis initially for a period of three months which would be renewed after funds were received from the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
Speaking to media persons here, the in charge District Education Officer, M Pyrbot said that the office is speeding up the appointment process.
“We will conduct the interview and the list of successful candidates will be forwarded to the Directorate for appointment”, she said.
Interestingly, there is only one staff looking after the entire RMSA project in East and West Jaintia Hills.
