SHILLONG, Sep 13: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday cautioned Meghalaya Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president and Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma of stringent action in future he repeated his Monday act.
Reminding that he had given a ruling under Rule 304 on certain words (an expletive) used by the MLA on Monday, Lyngdoh said, “I would like to remind the honorable member that this House has a rich tradition of conducting business in a decent and dignified manner.”
“Therefore it is our responsibility to uphold this tradition and be cautious in the use of any unparliamentarily words and language used inside the House while participating in any debate or discussion,” the Speaker said, recalling that it was not the first time the MLA had used such unparliamentarily language and he had to give a ruling for expunging the same from the House.
“I am taking a very strong exception of the action of the member and strong action will be taken by the House for any further repetition of such action in the future. This is my ruling,” he said.
