Students get pat on back at NIT’s 9th convocation

SHILLONG, Sep 19: In a proud moment for students, their parents, the faculty and staff members, and the administration of the institute, a total of 158 B.Tech, 39 M.Tech, 23 M.Sc and 25 Ph.D students were conferred with degrees during the 9th Annual Convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Monday.
The efforts and achievements of exceptional students were recognised and rewarded.
The opulent event was graced by Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, who was the chief guest, besides guest of honour Dr BDR Tiwari, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Education department.
The occasion also saw participation of Chairman, Century Plyboards (India) Ltd and also the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of NIT Meghalaya, Sajjan Bhajanka, and Prof BB Biswal, Director, NIT Meghalaya, as eminent personages.
The graduates were awarded their degrees pre-convocation address by the chief guest and guest of honour — Satya Pal Malik and BDR Tiwari respectively.
Shubham Singal was awarded the President’s Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance among the B.Tech graduating batch. Three Institute Gold Medals were awarded to Anmol Gautam (M.Tech), Nimish Gupta (M.Sc), and Ramneti Deepthi (B.Tech) for best academic performance among the entire outgoing students.
For the best academic performance in the respective departments, the Institute Silver Medals were awarded to Rahul Kumar Gupta, Ramneti Deepthi, Preeti Polai, Tanmay Tyagi, and Shubham Kumar among the outgoing B.Tech batch of students.
In regard with the best academic performance in the respective department, the Institute Silver Medals were awarded to M.Tech students Sreedevi AJ, Anmol Gautam, Biplove Basel, and Narayan Bashyal.
The Institute Silver Medals were also awarded to Basudha Deb, Bankitdor M Nongrum and Nimish Gupta of the M.Sc batch of students.
Members of the Board of Governors, faculty, graduates, staff, parents, media members, and other distinguished guests were present at the convocation ceremony.
