City resident dies in hit-and-run case; biker unidentified

SHILLONG, Sep 20: Biman (Moloy) Talukdar (65), a resident of Rilbong, succumbed to his injuries at Woodland Hospital on Tuesday night after he was hit by an unidentified speeding motorcycle at Civil Hospital point.
Police informed that the deceased was hit by the speeding motorcycle at around 7 pm while he was attempting to cross the road.
The biker who was coming from General’s (Rhino) Point towards Civil Hospital hit the victim and fled.
Police said the victim sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to Civil Hospital by traffic personnel but was referred to Woodland Hospital due to the critical nature of his injuries.
“All steps being taken to apprehend the biker,” police said.
Talukdar was the Block Congress president of South Shillong constituency and a past president of Lion’s Club. He was also an active member of Laban Dharmasabha (Harisabha) Puja Committee.
A condolence message from Central Puja Committee said Talukdar was a matured politician and social activist. He was loved by each and every one.
His funeral will take place on Wednesday.
