TURA, Sep 29: With scores of appeals falling on deaf ears, the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) schoolteachers from Garo Hills have now sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for the release of pending salaries.
The SSA teachers, under the banner of All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA), on Thursday shot off a memorandum to the PM, seeking direction from the latter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for release of pending salaries.
It may be mentioned that the SSA teachers are demanding release of four months’ salaries from June to September and  arrears that have been pending for eight months.
In their memorandum to the prime minister, the SSA teachers said that despite the chief minister confirming a month ago that required funds meant for clearing the salaries have been received from the Centre, the teachers are yet to receive the same, especially at a time when festivals are just around the corner.
Maintaining that disbursal of pending dues before the arrival of festivals is a must, the SSA teachers appealed to the prime minister to direct the chief minister to release the salaries.
