NONGSTOIN, Oct 2: As many as 640 members from the Congress, Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) as well as supporters of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) of Maweit area joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) during a function held at St. Mary’s Playground in Maweit on September 30.
The new members were welcomed into the NPP fold by the NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the presence of Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat, Mawshynrut MLA Gigur Myrthong, Rambrai Jyrngam MDC Bajop Pyngrope and other senior leaders of the party.
Addressing the gathering, Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat said NPP’s aim is to become a single majority and form the government alone in 2023 as he urged the people of Maweit area and the people of Mawshynrut Constituency to re-elect Gigur Myrthong as their MLA in 2023.
According to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, people are losing faith in other political parties, while sitting MLAs are leaving their camp. It speaks volumes of the faith and the trust that people have in the NPP, Sangma said.
In the 2023 elections, the NPP will form the government again and it will be a single-majority party, the party’s national president said.
