TURA: The All A’chik Youth Federation (AAYF) has threatened to embark on an agitation programme if the Officer-in-Charge of Ampati Police Station, Narul Islam, who has been accused of raping two minor sisters in custody, is not brought to book soon.

While condemning the rapes, the AAYF demanded that the erring cop should also be terminated from his post permanently given the heinous nature of his crime “which is an insult to the entire Garo community”.

Questioning the integrity of other cops present in the PS when the girls were being raped, the Federation said that each and every policeman on duty that day should be terminated and aptly punished.

Taking a dig into the past reputation of the accused police officer, AAYF alleged that while Islam was posted in Jengjal, he had on several occasions demanded money on gunpoint from many civilians.

“The tainted cop, Islam, had also demanded a sum of Rs 1 lakh from a small time vegetable vendor and Rs 10,000 from a scrap vendor. He was infamous in Jengjal area for illegally collecting money from commercial vehicles,” the AAYF alleged.

Police had earlier issued a lookout notice against Islam.
