SHILLONG, Oct 8: First Lady of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Neelam Mishra interacted with senior officials of Textile and Handicrafts department, entrepreneurs and self-help groups at Raj Bhavan here on Friday.
The First Lady of the state urged officials to motivate and assist the traditional weavers, especially the womenfolk in ensuring that the customary traditions continue to facilitate the progress and development of the society.
Impressed by the initiatives of the government officials in promotion of local handloom items, the First Lady called upon everyone to take the local product to global markets. She said that the steps will guarantee socio-economic empowerment of women.
Others who were present include Principal Secretary Textile, Sampath Kumar, Commission & Secretary Textile, FR Kharkongor, Director, NIFT, Shillong, Dr A Das, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo and Secretary Textile, T Lyngwa.
OSD to Secretary Textile & Handicrafts, Arunachal Pradesh government, Kari Lombi, and Chairperson of Oju Welfare Association of Arunachal Pradesh, Ratan Anya interacted with entrepreneurs of Meghalaya during the programme.
Documentaries on textiles of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh were screened on the occasion, which was appreciated by all.
