SHILLONG: Sohra-based local NGOs under the banner of JAC on Sunday demanded immediate action against a senior police official of Sohra PS for his alleged involvement in harassing a maxi-cab drive, Wanshai Laitmiet on June 6 at Sumo stand, Saitsohpen in Sohra.

The JAC comprising of FKJGP Sohra circle and Southern Riwar Zone, KSU South Khasi Hills, Shillong-Sohra Maxi Cab Association, Sohra Taxi Owner Association, MCCTD and OA and Seng Samla Saitsohpen has demanded actions against the erring police official, Anand Mishra failing of which, they have threatened to resort to other form of actions.

It was alleged that on June 6 at around 5:33pm, Laitmiet was harassed by this police official while he was conducting the mobile court checking at Sumo stand in Saitsohpen without no reasons as a result of which, Laitmiet sustained injury on his left ear.

Condemning the high-handedness of this police official, the JAC alleged that the attitude and the manner in which the mobile court checking was conducted by Mishra is very harsh and demeaning thereby creating a sense of insecurity to the people.

“Actions should be taken against this erring police official as per law failing of which we will be forced to take our own course of actions against him”, FKJGP Sohra Circle president RL Nongrum said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
