SHILLONG, Oct 11: All India Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Saket Gokhale on Tuesday fired a fresh volley at the NPP-led MDA Government, his target this time being former Power Minister James PK Sangma.
In a fresh letter to the now Health minister, Gokhale said lying to the media as well as the people of Meghalaya has become a “hallmark” of the MDA Government.
Countering Sangma’s claims about the MDA ministers being accessible to the press, Gokhale said that the blatant act of fabricating facts on part of the MDA Government has reached an embarrassing point.
In the letter, Gokhale raised questions about the installation of Chinese-made Inhemeter smart meter at Sangma’s residence in 2021 even though Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had claimed in July this year that these smart meters are yet to be approved by the Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and the Government of India.
Reacting to the government’s refusal to take part in the debate, TMC suggested an alternative. “We are ready to send you point-by-point questions about the issues of misgovernance and corruption in the MDA government. You can, at your leisure, issue a written response/clarification to the issues raised by us,” Gokhale suggested in his letter.
Further, TMC reminded that the NPP has not filed its mandatory election expenditure reports with the Election Commission of India stating that for the year 2018, expenditure reports of assembly elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram are pending and the expenditure report for the Lok Sabha elections is also pending.
In response to Sangma’s “do your homework” remark, the TMC leader questioned the implications of a national party hiding election expenditures from the people as well as the Election Commission of India for over 4.5 years.
Highlighting these two issues, TMC said that these are just two out of many issues which can be confidently pointed out, specifying the MDA Government’s attempt to fabricate facts and peddle lies to the people of Meghalaya.
