Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Sunday demanded a separate post of an independent commissioner for the education department to improve the education scenario of the state.

“The incumbent commissioner is also holding the charge of a few more departments, and it would not be possible for him to give his heart and soul to the cause of education in our state,” the union said in a representation to the education minister.

It said that since the department needs constant monitoring in every sphere, “it needs a commissioner of its own who can devote himself to the cause of the development of education.” An independent education commissioner should be appointed at the earliest, so that a healthy atmosphere prevails, it added.

AAPSU president Kamta Lapung also urged the government to immediately announce cash incentive for sports persons who brought laurels to the state.

Referring to the sports policy of the state government, Lapung said that policy does not make a sportsperson but facilitates the hidden talent to get exposure and the identified one to shine.

However, Lapung urged the state government to implement the sports policy in letter and spirit to develop adequate infrastructure throughout the state, recruit sportspersons under 5 per cent job reservation quota and offer incentives as a policy to Arunachalee players those who win medals at national and international levels.
