MCCL team to visit Kolkata to inspect BCPL cement plant

SHILLONG, Oct 18: A team of officials, led by Chairman of Mawmluh-Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL) Wailadmiki Shylla will leave for Kolkata on Wednesday to inspect the cement plant of Kolkata-based Bhavika Commercial Private Limited (BCPL) before entering into an agreement with the firm to run the MCCL by way of a joint venture.
Speaking with reporters, Shylla said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had expressed satisfaction over the presentation made by BCPL and had instructed him to visit the BCPL plant to find out its credentials and whether it has the expertise to manage and operate MCCL. “I will be presenting my report to the CM after returning from the visit,” Shylla said, adding that the report will be tabled before the Cabinet which will then give approval for the joint venture pact with BCPL.
Informing that three firms had applied against the expression of interests (EOIs) for the joint venture to operate the MCCL but only BCPL came forward to give a presentation before the MCCL board.
Shylla expressed hope that they would be able to break the deadlock between the MCCL management and the employees so that the plant resumes operation at the earliest.
The MCCL chairman further informed that the state government has decided to provide a financial assistance of Rs 2 crore per quarter to the employees as a temporary relief.
“The financial assistance will continue till a permanent solution is arrived at,” he added.
