SHILLONG, Oct 19: Shillong MP and MPCC chief, Vincent H Pala on Wednesday said the Congress party would be resurrected under the stewardship of Mallikarjun Kharge.
He congratulated Kharge for being elected as the AICC president. “With the new president, the decision (making) will be faster because he himself was an MLA and MP. He is a man who takes everyone together and unity in Congress is important and that will be stronger as his connections with MPs are already there,” said Pala while reacting to the outcome of the Congress presidential poll on Wednesday.
“I am positive we will work together. He will be forming a lot of new teams and innovative ideas and we should definitely do well under his leadership,” he said.
Pala said he was unaware of Kharge’s visit to poll-bound Meghalaya. “I am yet to meet him,” he added.
The MPCC chief said he will take a delegation of the state Congress to meet Kharge after returning from a conference abroad.
“Hopefully he will take over by October 23-24. We will meet him, know about his vision and discuss the state elections,” he said.
Earlier, addressing his first press conference after being elected as the next Congress president, Kharge said, “We need to fight against a conspiracy to kill democracy.”
He said no one in the party is big or small and he will work as a true Congress soldier to strengthen the organisation. Altogether, 56 Congress delegates cast their votes in Shillong on Monday to elect the AICC president.
