SHILLONG: Pohkseh SC held favourites Nangkiew Irat to a 1-1 draw in their first game of the ongoing U-19 Shillong Premiere League at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Tuesday.

Coming out of an early one goal deficit, Pohkseh held their nerve to keep the scores level despite an all-out attack by the opposition.

With the majority of their squad made up of talented SAI players, Nangkiew looked dangerous throughout the game and would have succeeded in securing a victory if not for their lack of conversions.

Nangkiew Irat’s Jefferson Nongrum drew first blood for his side after beating the keeper in the 14th minute.

However, equality was restored eight minutes later when Mebandalang Marsharing sent one into the net.

Jefferson also had his fair share of chances in the latter part of the final half, but luck did not appear to be on his side.

In the dying minutes, he was unable to place one past Pohkseh’s goalkeeper Melveric following a cross, sending the ball over the crossbar despite being only a metre away from goal.

Melveric had a wonderful match, denying the favourites the lead.

Meanwhile, in Monday’s match, Malki SC defeated Mawlai SC 3-1.

On Wednesday, Rang-dajied United will face Royal Wahingdoh at 4:00pm.
