NONGSTOIN, Oct 22: In an alleged arson, one house in Thadwang Pyndengrei, West Khasi Hills, was gutted in fire.
It is learnt that around 6 pm on Saturday, one Banteilang Iawphniaw visited a shop at Thadwang Pyndengrei, owned by his mother Daiana Iawphniaw, reportedly in search of tobacco.
When Banteilang was reportedly refused tobacco by Daiana’s sister, he came back to his house and locked the door from inside.
When Banteilang’s younger brother came to the house, he chased him away.
It was then at around 6:30 pm, Daiana’s sister informed that her house has been set ablaze.
When neighbours attempted to douse the fire, an infuriated Banteilang, reportedly unclad, then came out with a machete and threatened them.
Albeit the fire was eventually doused by the Fire and Emergency Services, the house was completely gutted.
The alleged arsonist has, meanwhile, been arrested.
