Mining lobby wants WJH DC transferred

SHILLONG: Pressure is mounting on the State Government to remove West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar.

The all-powerful mining lobby in the district is now hell-bent on removing Dkhar from his post for his initiative in banning limestone mining at Nongtalang and Amtapoh villages in West Jaintia Hills.

Official sources on Wednesday confirmed that there is pressure from the strong mining lobby in Jaintia Hills to remove Dkhar from the post of Deputy Commissioner.

However, War Jaintia Limestone and Boulder stone Exporters’ and Miners’ Association has strongly opposed any move to transfer Dkhar.

“The present Deputy Commissioner is the fittest person for the new district of West Jaintia Hills,” the Association said in a statement, while urging the Government to stay any move to transfer Dkhar for the overall interest of the people of the district.
