Rs 1 crore loss estimated in Laitumkhrah market fire

SHILLONG, Oct 29: The estimated loss from the fire which broke out in the temporary market at Iew Shillong, Laitumkhrah, has been ascertained to be around Rs 1 crore.
“As per police assessment, the total damage is approximately Rs 1 crore,” a senior police official said on Saturday.
It was also informed that the cause of the fire has been suspected to be short circuit.
Meanwhile, Laitumkhrah Rangbah Shnong Andrew Jyrwa, on Saturday, said different departments are carrying out their own assessment on the damages.
According to him, the district administration, Fire and Emergency Services and Agriculture department are doing their separate assessments. However, he said the Dorbar Shnong is hopeful the state government will provide some relief to the owners of the various stalls, especially the vegetable vendors who have been badly affected.
Jyrwa recalled that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on Friday, had assured assistance to all who were affected by the fire incident.
Earlier, the Rangbah Shnong had said that the total loss has been assessed to be around Rs 1.94 crore.
He also said the CM had assured to set up a temporary market within a month.
