AICC takes stock of political situation in State

New Delhi: With the general elections likely to be advanced in view of the ongoing crisis both within the ruling UPA and the opposition NDA, AICC leaders took stock of the political situation in the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya – Shillong and Tura.

AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya, Mukul Wasnik and his deputy Sanjay Bapna, during their two-day visit to Shillong, discussed about the imminent elections for the autonomous district councils, party sources here said.

Both the leaders also attended the executive committee meeting of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) which discussed the overall political scenario, it added.But any formal meeting about the Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats will be held only after receiving nod from the party high command, the sources said.

“There are few contenders for the Shillong seat and fewer for Tura but we are not disclosing their names since it is too early,” the sources said.

The AICC leaders who met Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and MPCC president DD Lapang and other leaders returned to Delhi on Friday.

They also discussed the tri-monthly report which was to be submitted to party vice president Rahul Gandhi regularly, the sources added.
