SHILLONG: Governor RS Mooshahary has suggested the State Government to transfer the investigation into the CMJ University anomalies to the CBI in case the State CID is finding it difficult to handle the probe in view of the extensive ramifications of the case.

“I would also like to suggest for filing of a police complaint for unauthorized withdrawal of the endowment fund by the CMJ University,” Mooshahary said here on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Governor also asked the State Government to ensure that Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University starts functioning as early as possible so that the affected students of CMJ University could be given fresh options depending on their suitability.

Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma had informed that the State Regulatory Board for Higher Education has accepted the recommendations of Governor RS Mooshahary for closure of the CMJ University.

Mooshahary who is also the Visitor of the University on Wednesday had asked the State Government to consider the closure of the University in accordance with Section 48 of the CMJ University Act, 2009.

Reacting to a query about the fate of hundreds of students who have been duped by the CMJ University, the Chief Minister said that the Government will examine the recommendations of the Regulatory Board and accordingly take necessary action.
