Rising Sun Water Fest flaunts NE’s rich culture on concluding day

SHILLONG, Nov 5: Curtain came down on the three-day Rising Sun Water Fest-2022 on Saturday with a grand closing ceremony at Umiam Lake, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast.
The programme on Saturday was also attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief guest, who felicitated the participants and clubs for their outstanding performances.
In his address, the chief minister also congratulated the organising committee, participating teams and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General RP Kalita, for making the event a grand success.
Some of the highlights of the closing ceremony include cultural performance by Assamese star Rupali Kashya, and colourful cultural songs and dance performances by Khasi Drummers that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast.
It may be mentioned that the water sports and cultural extravaganza, which began on November 3, was first of its kind in the Northeast, aimed at encouraging the sports-loving youths to take up water sports.
The Fest was also aimed at promoting tourism in the Northeast.
An initiative of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, the three-day Fest drew a significant number of attendees, including 22 clubs from across the country.
While the Rowing Trophy was won by the Director General of the Assam Rifles (DGAR) team, the Sailing Trophy was won by Yachting Club of Hyderabad.
