SHILLONG, Nov 5: As students remain aggrieved over the delay in disbursal of their scholarship amounts, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday announced that the students’ scholarship will likely be released next week.
“The central government has released Rs 148 crore this week. By next week, we hope we will be able to disburse all scholarships of the pre and post matric students,” said Rymbui.
This comes at a time when many students have taken to social media expressing their displeasure over the failure of the government to disburse the scholarship amount.
Earlier, the Tura-based AHAM had urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to look into the issue of pending scholarships of students for the year 2021-22.
“Many needy and dependent students of various realms are waiting for the grant so that the amount can be optimally utilised for the corresponding admission processes, especially for examination fees,” it had said.
The Meghalaya Trinamool Congress Students’ Union had also asked the Meghalaya government to immediately release the scholarship for the students in the state.
The students’ body also lamented that non-provision of scholarships has been causing hardships to students who are preparing for their examinations.
The TMC had stated that despite the chief minister’s recent promise that the scholarships would be released within a week’s time, the same was yet to come to pass.
