SHILLONG: HSPDP Parliamentary Party (PP) spokesperson Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Sunday dismissed reports of his party joining the Congress led MUA II Coalition Government as mere speculation by the media.

“If there is any such move, the matter would have first been discussed in the PP. The party is not aware of any such developments,” Basaiawmoit said here on Sunday.

Earlier, it had been reported that the HSPDP had initiated a move to join the Congress led MUA II Government even as Basaiawmoit was reportedly averse to the idea. The Executive Committee of HSPDP will meet on Monday to decide on the matter following which the party chief HS Lyngdoh will meet the Chief Minister

Dr Mukul Sangma in the afternoon to hand over a resolution.

While majority of the HSPDP functionaries are inclined to support the Government, sources feel that a split in the HSPDP is imminent if the party joins the Government minus Basaiawmoit.

Besides Lyngdoh and Basaiawmoit, other two legislators of the party include Witting Mawsor and KP Pangngiang.

Though UDP, NPP, GNC and two independents had formed the Opposition led Meghalaya People’s Forum, HSPDP had refused to join the coalition.
