SHILLONG, Nov 9: The Ministry of Home Affairs and Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui are closely monitoring the issue of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) peace talks, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday.
The CM also revealed that the official tripartite talks will begin soon although a number of meetings are held at unofficial level.
Stating that some time has been sought to get certain matters in place and procedures to be followed, he said, “The process is on and it is not like normal discussions; lot of background work and discussions. It has to be done in a way where we are able to take everybody into consideration and ensure that aspect has to be looked into”.
The CM asserted that one needs to be firm and keep pushing, while also giving the space to ensure that the confidence and the overall trust and comfort level is built.
Maintaining that the state government is committed, he said, “Talks are happening and we expect more to happen in the future at unofficial level. I hope the official talks will also be starting very soon”.
“The MHA and the (Home) minister himself are continuously monitoring the issue and they are also very keen on taking the peace talks to a logical conclusion,” he added.
